The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) has announced new prices for electricity.
As part of the Regulated Price Plan (RPP), electricity prices are
reviewed and adjusted by the OEB more frequently every six
months if necessary.
On May 1, 2009, RPP prices change to 5.7 cents per kWh
for electricity use up to a certain threshold per month and 6.6
cents per kWh for consumption above that threshold. These prices
will be in effect for six months until October 31, 2009 and are reflected
on the Electricity line on your bill. Hydro One passes these
charges to our customers with no mark up or profit. For more information
about electricity prices, read our latest Bill Insert (aussi disponible en français) or the OEB's Press
Release and Backgrounder.

Seasonal Price Threshold
As of May 1, 2009, the threshold for the amount of electricity
residential customers can use at the lower price decreases to 600
kWh from 1,000 kWh per month for the summer season (May 1st to
October 31st). The lower threshold recognizes that customers do not need to heat their homes during the summer season. In addition, the number of daylight hours increases in the summer, therefore less indoor light is required.
- Summer Season (from May 1 to October 31): The threshold is 600 kWh per month.
- Winter Season
(from November 1 to April 30): The
threshold is 1,000 kWh per month.
There are no changes for
non-residential or business customers. The threshold remains
at 750 kWh regardless of the season.
So using electricity wisely and employing conservation
methods will help you manage your bills this summer. Residential,
seasonal and most farm customers will see the summer price threshold
of 600 kWh on their first bill issued on or after May 1, 2009.
