Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)

Save 30% or more on your HVAC bills
Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) may be the biggest user of energy in your building. Fortunately, it's possible to save up to 30% or more on your HVAC energy costs. Here's how:

  • Turn it off when not needed
  • Run it less (including more efficient temperature settings)
  • Make it more efficient

The first two you can do yourself, the last probably will require help from qualified professionals - your electric or gas utility, HVAC sales and service firm, or an energy conservation consultant. They can help you correct inefficiencies which occur in many complicated systems and assist you in evaluating energy efficiency investments.

The pages in this section will show you where to look for savings in your HVAC systems:

Remember your HVAC is related to the rest of your building
Any changes you make in your building may affect your HVAC. For example, more efficient lighting means less heat given off. That could translate into reduced air conditioning requirements, but more heating in the winter.

Tightening up your building envelope may decrease the heating load but increase the air conditioning load.
