Sentinel Light Rental Program

New market rules mean changes to the program

Under the rules of the electricity market, Hydro One Networks - and all other electricity distributors in Ontario - may provide only delivery-related services to customers. At first, it appeared that we would have to cancel our Sentinel Light Rental Program.

However, Hydro One received approval from the OEB to continue the sentinel light program based on strong customer support for the vital role sentinel lights play in terms of security and safety, we received approval to continue the program under the following conditions:

1. The service is limited only to customers already participating in the rental program.

2. We can maintain and service existing sentinel lights only, and we cannot offer you any additional ones. Existing mercury vapour lights will be replaced by high pressure sodium lights upon failure.

3. We are required to charge rental rates that recover the full cost of running the program.

A summary of terms & conditions for the Sentinel Light Rental Program

Access to customer premises
Customers are responsible for providing access to their property and a convenient, safe and accessible place for the replacement and maintenance of Hydro One Networks' rental equipment. Additional charges will apply if such access is not provided. We may enter onto a customer’s property at reasonable hours to maintain, remove, replace or otherwise deal with the rental equipment. Only authorized employees or agents of Hydro One Networks may service the rental equipment.

Hydro One Networks’ equipment
Customers accept responsibility for safeguarding Hydro One Networks’ rental equipment on their property. We will repair or replace equipment that fails due to ordinary wear and tear during normal working hours. The rental equipment is the property of Hydro One Networks and shall not become fixtures on the customer’s premises. The Company will not sell the equipment to the customer under any circumstances.

Rates
Customers are responsible for all service, energy and rental charges levied by Hydro One Networks in relation to Sentinel Light rental service. This includes any extra fees to replace or maintain the rental equipment in safe and good repair.

Removal fees
Rental equipment removed within the first two years following original installation is subject to removal fees. Rental equipment removed due to failure is not subject to removal fees.

Liability
Hydro One Networks assumes no responsibility and shall not be liable for any injury, loss or damage to persons or property that may result from or be connected with the rental equipment or its presence on your property.

Termination of rental service
Should you wish to discontinue your Sentinel Light rental service, please give us 30 days notice. Upon termination of the rental arrangement, we may enter your property to remove our rental equipment.

Disconnection
We may disconnect rental equipment when accounts are not paid, though we prefer to help customers keep their accounts in good standing. In the event that you encounter temporary financial hardship, please call us to discuss payment options.

*Sentinel Light rental rates effective May 1, 2006. Please note equipment rental does not include charges for Electricity, Delivery, Regulatory Charges, Debt Retirement Charge and GST.
