Electrical Safety

Hydro One is proud to be the main supplier of electricity to over 90 Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) across Ontario. Hydro One operates the province's approximately 30,000-kilometre transmission system from our state-of-the-art operating centre in Barrie, Ontario. Our team of electricity industry professionals work in the operations centre, the field and head office to ensure a safe, reliable supply of electricity now and for the future.

Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) deliver electricity to homes and businesses over low-voltage wires.

Distribution-connected LDCs are connected to the power system ranging anywhere from 8,000 to 50,000 volts.

Transmission-connected LDCs are connected to the power system at greater than 50,000 volts.

In this section, you'll find our latest customer news, real-time operating information (password protected), information on our meter exit program, and a list of contacts who are here to help you.

Hydro One recognizes the importance of anticipating system needs as the Ontario electricity sector continues to evolve. To this end, Hydro One consults early and often with major customers, existing and potential new generation proponents, and key stakeholders to ensure that the required transmission facilities are in place when they are needed.

It will evolve as Ontario's electricity sector evolves, and in response to input from key stakeholders. We recognize that transmission must be planned as part of an integrated approach to addressing the overall electricity needs of Ontario.
