Home > Customers > Farm > Rates and Pricing (kWh & kW) Farm Customers Effective May 1, 2008, the electricity you use each month will be priced at 5.0 cents per kWh up to a certain threshold. Each kWh you use above the threshold will be priced at 5.9 cents per kWh. Since November 1, 2005, the seasonal price thresholds have changed twice a year to 1,000 kWh per month during the winter season (November 1 to April 30) and 600 kWh per month during the summer season (May 1 to October 31) for farm price-protected customers who receive Rural or Remote Rate Protection (RRRP). For farm customers without RRRP the threshold is 750 kWh all year. Every six months, the prices for electricity may change based on the OEB's forecast for electricity prices. See details. Electricity is shown separately from Delivery and other industry-related charges. Hydro One passes electricity prices to you with no mark-up or profit. As a farm customer who typically uses more than 50 kW (kilowatts) on average per month, you are set up with a meter(s) capable of reading both kWh (kilowatt hours) and kW (kilowatts). If you don’t fit this description, see Rates and Pricing (kWh). Delivery charges vary according to the classification or type of electric service you have on your farm. Most farm accounts are eligible for Rural or Remote Rate Protection (RRRP). Look for your service classification on your bill, then locate your rates in the chart below. If you do not receive RRRP, click here to see your rates. Metered usage in kilowatt-hours is the amount of electricity you used in kilowatt-hours (kWh). It is calculated by taking the difference in meter readings and multiplied, if applicable, by the multiplier indicated on your meter. Adjusted usage in kilowatt-hours is the amount of electricity you used in kWh adjusted to cover the line losses in the electricity system that are not measured by your meter. When electricity is transmitted over long distances and passes through wires and transformers, its normal for a small amount of power to be used or lost as heat. For example, if we deliver 1,000 kWh to you, we must purchase a small amount more than what you use. To determine the amount of electricity we need to buy for you, we use a calculation called an adjustment factor. The adjustment factor is approved by the Ontario Energy Board and varies according to your service type. For single phase farm customers, the adjustment factor is 1.092. For three phase farm customers, the adjustment factor is 1.061.
