Are you a landlord who receives one electricity bill for a multi-unit residential or commercial building?

Are you a homeowner with a self-contained basement apartment?

Each unit in your building or home may be eligible for 5.5 cents per kWh pricing on the first 1,000 kWh of electricity consumed each month during the winter season (November 1 to April 30), even if you receive only one bill*. All you need to do is find out if your building qualifies, fill out a declaration form, and send it to us as soon as possible.

Declaration Form for Multi-Unit Premises

The Ontario government introduced the Regulated Price Plan (RPP) for electricity on April 1, 2005. Under the plan, effective November 1, 2006, the first 1,000 kWh of electricity used in a month during the winter season (November 1 to April 30) will be priced at 5.5 cents per kWh, and each additional kWh used will be priced at 6.4 cents.*

What does this mean to me as a landlord or building owner/manager?
If you're a landlord and your Hydro One account includes more than one residential unit on the same meter, you may qualify to receive the 1,000 kWh threshold during the winter season (November 1 to April 30) for each unit*. Just complete and sign the declaration form and return it to us by mail or fax as soon as possible.

Does my account qualify?

According to Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998, your account qualifies if it is a:

  • A property as defined in the Condominium Act, 1998
  • A residential complex as defined in the Tenant Protection Act, 1997
  • A property that includes one or more dwellings and that is owned or leased by a co-operative as defined in the Co-operative Corporation Act, 1994

For qualifying customers, this means that each unit in your multiple unit building qualifies for pricing at the 5.5 cents per kWh for the first 1,000 kWh per month during the winter season*.

* Seasonal Price Thresholds: Starting November 1, 2005, the price threshold — the amount of electricity that is charged at the lower price — will change twice a year for residential customers. The price threshold will be 1,000 kWh per month during the winter season (November 1 to April 30) and 600 kWh during the summer season (May 1 to October 31).
