How does the new pricing structure affect my apartment
building/condo/basement apartment?
Electricity costs for buildings that have a single meter and multiple
units will be calculated on a per unit basis once your declaration form
has been filed and approved by Hydro One. We will calculate your bill
by multiplying the number of units by 1,000 kWh X 5.5 cents per kWh
during the winter season. For example, if you have three units, the
calculation would be 3 X 1,000 kWh, so the first 3,000 kWh used each
month would cost 5.5 cents per kWh; the additional electricity used
will cost 6.4 per kWh.
Where can I get copies of the Condominium Act,
the Tenant Protection Act and the Co-operative Corporation
Act?
Visit www.e-laws.gov.on.ca
and request that a copy be sent to you by mail.
Can I just send Hydro One my information in a letter?
We would prefer that you use the Hydro One Declaration form
(PDF 438 KB).
When will I receive the form?
The form
is now available for download on our Web site.
What information do I need to complete the declaration
form?
We will need your account number, name, number of units and which of
the acts defines your property.
Does my basement apartment qualify?
Current government direction indicates you should be eligible to self
declare for the 5.5 cent rate for the first 1,000 kWh per month used
during the winter season by each residential unit in your home that
is defined by the Tenant Protection Act. The Tenant Protection
Act can be viewed at www.e-laws.gov.on.ca.
How long will it take for Hydro One to process the
declaration form?
Your account should be updated within four weeks of the date we receive
your completed declaration form.
Will Hydro One verify the information provided?
All information provided on the declaration form is subject to review
by the Minister of Finance according to the Ontario Energy Board
Act, 1998.
When is the deadline to submit the declaration form?
There is no deadline to submit the form, however, we request that you
complete it as soon as possible.
Will you be sharing my account information with anyone?
By law we are required to provide the Ministry of Energy and/or the
Ministry of Finance with the information if they request it. We will
not share the information with anyone else.
I have four bedrooms and four children. Can I claim
four units?
No. The declaration form is intended for "self-contained living
space" with separate living quarters for each unit, not shared
living quarters.
If I have four or more units, can it affect my price?
Yes. If you have four or more units on a single-meter service, the
account classification could be changed to commercial status
and total electricity charges could be higher.
Will my account be adjusted retroactively?
Yes, if you qualify we will credit your account retroactively to the
date we received the form.
