Hydro One has left a lasting legacy in the town of Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Back in October 2004, after our repair crews finished helping Florida Power & Light restore power to the hurricane-ravaged town, FLM Ron Matthews wanted to thank local residents for their hospitality throughout their grueling 3-week stay. In particular, his crew formed a special bond with a youth football team in the area — a group of teenagers with no wins or even uniforms, but with remarkable energy and determination despite having their homes nearly destroyed by Hurricanes Frances, Ivan and Jeanne. The team generously offered to share their washroom facilities and locker room with the visiting crewmen, and were only too happy to gain a new cheering section as well as new friends to toss the ball around with during practice.

To return their kindness, Ron collected donations from his crew and was able to raise enough money to purchase brand new uniforms for our "adopted" team — The Hydro One Redskins — and the rest is sports history!

2005 Season — Road to the Championship

After a disappointing season in 2004, the Redskins have battled back to take top spot in the PSLAA Upper Division rankings this year. At the end of their 10-game season, the boys are an amazing 9-1 and are headed to the playoffs on December 3rd! Their only defeat came the week after losing their quarterback to injury — and their playing field to Hurricane Wilma!

Coach Rick cites Hydro One as the team's inspiration and couldn't be prouder to have us as their sponsor. In a recent letter, team Manager Karen Weiss writes: "We've missed you. The boys are very concerned about what you think about them this year, and they still feel badly about not giving you anything last season, but like I said, they are the 'total package' this year — and have not forgotten you all."

Playoff Update

The Hydro One Redskins beat the Steelers 14-0 on December 3rd and will play in the Championship game on Saturday, December 10! While their playoff win was expected, their next opponent was a bit of a surprise, as 2004 Champions "The Chiefs" were beat out in the playoffs by the underdog "Vikings." So it'll be Redskins vs. Vikings playing next weekend for the PSLAA league title.
