New Projects Transmission System Projects Preston Transformer Station to Speedsville Junction
The Project Hydro One is improving transmission capacity to the Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo
areas. The project has three components:
To establish the transmission line right-of-way between Preston TS and Speedsville Junction, Hydro One will remove existing trees to ensure electrical safety and prevent tree-related power outages. Tree clearing will begin in late August/early September. Construction of the transmission line, as well as the construction of the other two project components will begin in the fall of 2006. All three project components are expected to be complete and in-service by the summer of 2007. The transmission line will be composed of both steel poles and steel lattice towers and will cross Highway 401, a CN rail line, the Speed River and the Speed River Trail. Hydro One has consulted with the Grand River Conservation Authority, the Ministry of Transportation, Transport Canada, CN, property owners and the City of Cambridge to ensure that there is minimal impact on adjacent land uses and activities. Highway 401 will remain open during transmission line construction, but motorists may experience small delays due to lane closures. Following project completion, Hydro One will implement their hectare-per-hectare tree replacement policy through the Grand River Conservation Authority, ensuring that an equal area of trees will be planted to replace those removed for construction of the line.
