Southern Simcoe County Transformer Station
What's New
- On January 20, 2005, Hydro One released the Draft Environmental Study
Report for a 30-day public review period. Download the Everett
Draft ESR (PDF 4.7 MB).
Background
Hydro Ones existing Alliston Transformer Station (TS) has reached
its capacity to reliably supply customers in the growing southern Simcoe
County townships, including New Tecumseth, Adjala-Tosorontio, Essa and
Innisfil.
The need for additional TS capacity was identified in a Joint Planning
Study involving:
- Hydro One Networks
- Barrie Hydro
- COLLUS Power
- Innisfil Hydro
- Midland Power
- Wasaga Distribution Inc.
- Honda of Canada.

The Project
The project involves the construction of a new TS adjacent to the existing
230 kV transmission corridor in Adjala-Tosorontio Township. Two
potential sites for the TS are currently being evaluated both in the vicinity
of County Road 15 and County Road 5 (see map). The proposed station consists
of two transformers and associated equipment to step down electricity
supplied by the adjacent 230 kV transmission line to 44 kV in order to
be distributed to homes and businesses. The project (design and construction)
is expected to begin during the spring of 2005 with the new facilities
in service by summer 2006.
